One of the most anticipated events in Jewish Johannesburg is the Great-Park Lag B’omer celebration. Located in the forest adjacent to the Shul , the celebration brings together over 30 shuls and community organizations for a fun filled night of music, dancing and inspiration.

Lag  B’Omer, the 33rd day of the counting of the Omer, celebrates the cessation of the plague which had befallen the students of Rabbi Akiva. As a result of their inadequate respect for one another many of Rabbi Akiva’s students died. This day is marked by an increase is unity and love, with families and communities joining together to celebrate that which unites us all.

The main celebration takes place here at the Great Park Forest, where over 2000 people from all communities and backgrounds join together to celebrate and rejoice on this special day. Each year a special program is introduced to encourage additional commitment to doing acts of goodness and kindness.

With a traditional bonfire, great music and delicious food, the celebration at Great-Park is not to be missed.
