Rabbi Cyril Harris Community Centre

The Rabbi Cyril Harris Community Centre's mission, as a Jewish-based organisation, is to provide recreational, cultural, educational and social programs to perpetuate, strengthen and serve the greater Johannesburg community at large.

Thanks to the many who have supported its functions and events, this mission has been achieved beyond our most optimistic expectations.

Our programs range from light entertainment to thought provoking lectures, films and documentaries and exciting exhibitions. The Centre has become a fast growing hub of daily energy from our evening events, to bridge sessions, Yiddish classes and an art gallery.

The Community Centre has become a home, a haven, a place for dialogues and learning, a place where all are welcome.

Supervised Bridge is held at the Centre every Tuesday and Wednesday morning from 10.00 am to 12.00 pm. Tuesday's are for intermediate players and the more advanced players come on a Wednesday morning.

Jeff Sapire runs these sessions, where he has pre-dealt hands, which are played out and discussed.  It is not necessary to come with a partner, as there is always a place to slot in at a table.

The cost is R60.00 per person, and includes tea.

Our mission at the RCHCC, is to provide recreational, cultural, educational, and social programs to perpetuate, strengthen and serve the greater Johannesburg Community.

Thanks to all of you who have supported our functions and events, this mission has been achieved beyond our most optimistic expectations, and the Centre provides an oasis of culture and entertainment for the community.

The RCHCC is a Section 21, NOT FOR PROFIT ORGANISATION, run by only two paid workers, and costs are strictly controlled.  However, as you will appreciate, the events and facilities provided do cost money and the expansion of our programs and the higher caliber thereof, have exacerbated the normal cost increases.

Membership fees are one of the ways in which we generate income to assist in meeting these expenses, and in helping us to expand our “family” of supporters.

Our thanks to all those who have supported us and taken out membership in the past, and are now happy members of our growing family. May we encourage and appeal to all of you to join as members. Membership brings the additional benefit of a 30% reduction in the cost of all lectures and films. Also, for special events or films, members will get the benefit of priority bookings.

Our annual membership fee is R250.00, all of which, as we have said, goes towards helping us maintain and develop the Centre and the high standard of events we are therefore able to present to you. Also, we are not increasing our entrance fee of R50.00 for most films. This fee has remained the same for the past six years, in spite of rising costs.

Please remember this is your Centre. It is here to serve you. Please help us to continue making the dream a reality and lend us your ongoing support by becoming a member and having your name associated with us.

Membership for the year costs R250.00 per person and allows a reduction of 30% at each event.
